Finding the Right SurfboardMy friend's surfboard he just sold:
Do you want to purchase a surfboard? There are many different types of surfboards, and you have to know the right information to help you in purchasing the correct one for your ability. Surfboards come in many shapes and sizes. Let's start off first with the longboard. The longboard is a surfboard that is around and over 8'. Between around 6'6" and under there are shortboard surfboards. And also there are funshapes that are from about 6'8" to 7'6". Shortboard surfboards have different tail styles. The most common tail style is the squash tail. This is just a flat tail that works well in most kinds of surfing breaks. There is also the fish tail surfboard which you can get a picture of by thinking of a fish's tail. These surfboards are used for waves under 6' because they generate a greater amount of speed than a normal squash tail. You really shouldn't have to worry about your tail shapes too much if your just going surfing to have fun. There are other surfboard tails but these are the most common. I recommend a squash tail because it works in all-around surf. If you think that you really need to experiment with different tail shapes, talk to your local shaper at a surf shop. He will be able to tell you the exact advantages and disadvantages of your new surfboard. The longboard is the surfboard that most people should start off with. It is must easier to stand up on this kind of surfboard because it is so long and it doesn't tip over as easy as a normal surfboard. This surfboard is also much easier to paddle. Keep in mind that even though you are starting out on a longboard, you can always ease your way into using a shortboard. The funshape is really the best of both worlds. It has the easy paddling ability of the longboard, with the quickness and movability of the shortboard. Go to your local surfboard dealer and try to find the best surfboard for you. Remember the reason you started surfing was to have fun!
